Nehru Memorial Museum is located in one of the most imposing
and stately buildings of Lutyen's New Delhi, Teen Murti Bhavan
on Teen Murti Road. Originally the official home of the
British commander-in-chief of the Indian army, this graceful
colonial building became the residence of India's first Prime
Minister and national leader, Jawaharlal Nehru, who lived here
for sixteen years.
Depicting various facets of life of the great statesman, the
memorial has a fine collection of rare photographs from his
family album, his personal letters and newspaper clippings
providing detailed information on National Movement of India.
The visitors can view Nehru's bedroom, study room and drawing
room as he left them through large glasses. These spacious
teak-paneled rooms with high ceilings are laid with some very
personal belongings of the able leader. There are also on
display his stylish clothes of summer and winter reflecting
his elegant taste apart from gifts, treasured curios, presents
and precious awards he received during his lifetime from
various countries and organizations.
An eternal flame burns representing the values and
foresightedness of Nehruji just near the beautiful flower
garden at the back of the house. Besides it, there is also a
rock carved out with thankful words of the dynamic person for
his countrymen.
Teen Murti House also has a rich library, Nehru Memorial
Library, which is an excellent research center for Indian
History. The library has the provision to give temporary
membership to interested persons.
